FSU football: Georgia Tech is who we thought they were?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football fans got a glimpse of their next opponent Thursday night when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hosted the Virginia Cavaliers.
I wrote before the game for FSU fans to avoid overreacting to the game, pointing out both teams were terrible.
It was telling Georgia Tech was only a -3 betting favorite at home, despite Virginia not beating a Power 5 team all year.
Well, Georgia Tech lost to Virginia 16-9 and that result has provided a confidence boost to FSU fans as they host the Yellow Jackets next week after the bye-week this week:

Thoughts
Georgia Tech starting quarterback and former FSU commit Jeff Sims only played about a quarter and a half before leaving the game.
I think he had been hurt going into the game and hurt his ankle/lower leg Thursday night. However, the Georgia Tech offense had been terrible while he was in the game, and their only points came from a Georgia Tech pick-six.
Sims was 6 of 11 for 49 yards and the interception, with three rushes for one yard. Sims gave way to Zach Gibson Thursday night was only his second appearance of the year. His inexperience showed on the final play as he ran out of bounds with the ball as time expired to end the game. Virginia had eight sacks in the game and 11 tackles for loss.
Gibson finished the night 10 of 25 for 99 yards, and the Yellow Jackets finished the game averaging 2.82 yards per play. Georgia Tech’s defense forced four turnovers and held UVA’s offense to 2 of 14 on third downs and 5.61 ypp.
They gave up several explosive passing plays through the air, which bodes well for FSU’s offense. It’s not clear if Jeff Sims will be available for the FSU game, but he’ll have a couple extra days to try and get ready with a Thursday night kickoff last night.
If he’s not completely healthy, that takes away a big part of his game as a dual-threat QB, but either way the Noles should be big favorites in week nine.
