I had FSU football in the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and there’s still some truth in that after losing to two of the better teams in the conference. The crazy thing is it was more FSU giving those games away, especially Saturday night against NC State.

Nevertheless, we have some movement within the both divisions as teams won and lost. The overall rankings in the ACC will see some movement as well.

FSU can shake up things is they pull the upset against Clemson before heading into their much-needed second bye week.

NC State will travel to undefeated Syracuse but will likely be without starting QB Devin Leary who got knocked out of the FSU game. That game will have huge implications. North Carolina will travel to play Duke after their big win over Miami.

Here are my updated rankings after six weeks by division and then overall as a conference:

ACC Atlantic

  • Clemson (6-0, 4-0 ACC)
  • Wake Forest (5-1, 1-1 ACC)
  • NC State (5-1, 1-1 ACC)
  • FSU (4-2, 2-2 ACC)
  • Syracuse (5-0, 2-0 ACC)
  • Boston College (2-4, 1-3 ACC)
  • Louisville (3-3, 1-3 ACC)

ACC Coastal

  • North Carolina (5-1, 2-0 ACC)
  • Pittsburgh (4-2, 1-1 ACC)
  • Georgia Tech (3-3, 2-1 ACC)
  • Duke (4-2, 1-1 ACC)
  • Virginia Tech (2-4, 1-2 ACC)
  • Virginia (2-4, 0-3 ACC)
  • Miami (2-3, 0-1 ACC)

Overall Power Rankings

  1. Clemson
  2. Wake Forest
  3. NC State
  4. FSU
  5. Syracuse
  6. North Carolina
  7. Pittsburgh
  8. Georgia Tech
  9. Duke
  10. Louisville
  11. Virginia Tech
  12. Virginia
  13. Boston College
  14. Miami

Parting Thoughts

I couldn’t drop FSU football below Syracuse because Syracuse hasn’t played anyone with a pulse yet, and the Noles gave that game to NC State. NC State leaps FSU with the head-to-head win but I think Wake Forest rolls them.

Syracuse gets a huge edge due to FSU putting NC State QB Devin Leary out of commission this week. Louisville saved Scott Satterfield’s job for now, even without Malik Cunningham playing this week.

It’s mid-October and Miami hasn’t beaten a Power 5 team yet, that’s why I have them at the bottom of the conference after the North Carolina loss.

If FSU can upset Clemson that gives them life since Syracuse likely beats NC State and Clemson has to play them later. FSU will play Syracuse after their bye week, and Syracuse will have to go through NC State, Pittsburgh, Clemson, and Notre Dame before playing FSU.
