FSU football went on the road and beat a team that has waxed them the past two years and did so without their starting quarterback, defensive tackle, defensive end, and cornerback.

Quarterback Jordan Travis and defensive end Jared Verse got knocked out of the game in the second quarter, defensive tackle Fabien Lovett didn’t play, and starting cornerback Omarion Cooper only played a few snaps.

Most people think Lovett will return sooner than later, and Cooper has something he’ll have to work through all year. However, the injuries to Jordan Travis and Jared Verse didn’t look good in real-time.

Travis immediately reached for his ankle and pounded his fist into the ground once the injury took place. He needed assistance to get off the field. Jared Verse walked with a noticeable limp on the sidelines shortly after leaving the game.

The nature of Verse’s injury looked the worse, as his knee bent inwards after getting hit on the outside of his knee.

Mike Norvell was coy when asked about the injuries at Monday’s press conference, offering he was encouraged from the testing since the game concluded.

I’m merely speculating here, but I think we may be able to rule out Jordan Travis and Jared Verse having season-ending injuries. Travis indicated he received good news in a tweet this weekend, and he and Verse appear on the depth chart for the Boston College game.

The depth chart doesn’t mean much because guys appear on it weekly as starters and don’t play. However, someone asked Norvell about season-ending injuries, and he neither confirmed nor denied it.

If Norvell knew someone was out for the year, he’d likely announce it sooner than later. Maurice Smith got injured late in fall camp and thought it was a torn ACL, but it turned out to be a sprain, and he’s already played in two games.

If I had to speculate, Travis has an ankle sprain of some sort, and the healing process varies greatly. I think he returns at some point, but it’s news on Jared Verse that I’m waiting on the most.

At this point, no news is good news, and the team will prepare for Boston College and the opportunity to start the season 4-0.
