FSU football quarterback Jordan Travis had been one of the best quarterbacks in the nation through two games.

His evolution as a passer was on full display in the first quarter of the Louisville game as he completed his first 11 throws on the night, torching Louisville’s defense for over 10 yards per play. However, that success was short-lived as Travis got injured in the second quarter when he got tackled in the backfield.

It wasn’t a dirty play, but the Louisville defender got him around both ankles, and Travis immediately pointed to that area and had to be helped off the field.

Travis came out after halftime with crutches and a boot on the injured ankle/foot. The worst-case scenario was a broken bone in his foot or ankle, and probably the best-case scenario would be an ankle sprain.

He’ll probably miss time in either scenario, and sprains can be tricky, especially if they are of the high ankle sprain variety. However, if his tweet Sunday night is any indication, the worst-case scenario might be off the table.

Thoughts

At the very least, I’d suspect Travis will miss the Boston College game. It’s a game they can likely win with Tate Rodemaker, provided he plays at the same level he did in the second half against Louisville.

If it’s a high ankle sprain, I don’t know if we’d see him back the following week against Wake Forest. However, we saw Johnny Wilson injure an ankle against Duquense and return to action the following week against LSU.

However, Wilson could walk on the sidelines without crutches or a boot after it happened. Travis is naturally an optimistic person, so he could just be happy it’s not broken and will still miss several games.

I suspect Mike Norvell will provide an update on injuries during Monday’s press conference. However, if Travis will only miss 1-2 games, that would be huge for the Nole’s outlook the remainder of the season.
