I had FSU football in the top half of my preseason ACC Power Rankings, and I look like I was on the right track overall.

We’ve seen some ACC teams lose badly to out-of-conference foes, like Virginia Tech against Old Dominion. NC State and UNC should have lost to G5 teams in week one.

FSU and Duke had solid out-of-conference wins over SEC and B1G opponents as betting underdogs. Syracuse has looked better than I anticpated, and Miami is overrated as usual.

The ACC has four teams ranked in the top 25 in the preseason, and all of them, except Wake Forest, probably shouldn’t have been ranked as high, just as I said before the season.

Anyways, here are my updated rankings after two weeks by division and then overall as a conference:

ACC Atlantic

  • Clemson
  • FSU
  • Syracuse
  • Wake Forest
  • NC State
  • Louisville
  • Boston College

ACC Coastal

  • Pittsburgh
  • Miami
  • Duke
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia
  • Virginia Tech
  • Georgia Tech

Overall Power Rankings

  1. Clemson
  2. FSU
  3. Syracuse
  4. Pittsburgh
  5. Wake Forest
  6. NC State
  7. Miami
  8. Duke
  9. Louisville
  10. North Carolina
  11. Virginia
  12. Virginia Tech
  13. Georgia Tech
  14. Boston College

Parting Thoughts

Clemson continues their offensive woes from last season but maintains a very good defense for a 2-0 start. FSU football has started 2-0 for the first time since 2016. Syracuse is off to a surprising 2-0 start, upsetting Louisville in their season opener.

Pittsburgh is 1-1 after their overtime loss against Tennessee but is probably still the best team in the ACC Coastal. Wake Forest got their starting QB back and smoked Vanderbilt on the road for their 2-0 start. NC State should have lost against ECU, and Miami is who we thought they were.

Duke went on the road and smoked Northwestern as a double-digit underdog for a 2-0 start. Louisville rebounded to beat UCF, and North Carolina has gone life and death with two non-Power 5 schools.

However, Appalachian State upset No. 6 Texas A&M, but that says more about the trash preseason rankings than anything. The last four teams aren’t any good if we’re being honest.

If FSU can get past Louisville next week, they should beat Boston College and enter the Wake Forest game undefeated.
