FSU football: 4-star RB target Daylan Smothers sets commitment date
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has a couple of top targets at the running back position in the 2023 recruiting cycle. It’s one area that’s fairly clear on who they covet at the position.
Daylan Smothers and Samuel Singleton, both of whom officially visited FSU on June 24th. The Noles looked to be in a solid position for both as their official visits concluded.
Both players spoke glowingly about their visits and how their families enjoyed their time there. It seemed like both could move their commitment time line up.
One of those has come to fruition as Daylan Smothers announced a commitment date of July 14th Tuesday night via his Twitter account.
Smother’s timeline moving up doesn’t seem like it’s going to favor the Noles as crystal ball predictions in favor of Oklahoma began to pour in as early as June 28th. There are seven predictions in favor of the Sooners with Demarco Murray as their running back’s coach. The Sooners’ all-time leader in all-purpose yardage and touchdowns.
FSU’s newest commit, Keldric Faulk is hard at work recruiting Smothers to FSU football.
It’s clear the Noles are not conceding the North Carolina native after putting a lot of work into getting him on campus once in June 2021 and twice this spring before his June official visit. Smothers has only visited Oklahoma once after getting an offer on March 20th.
However, it seems like a foregone conclusion of what this recruitment goes. But, it does open the door for Samuel Singleton, who’s ranked right there with Smothers in the No. 220 range nationally.
If FSU could get both it would have been a home run, but getting at least one of them would be a win for the staff and the first blue-chip running back since Lawrance Toafili in the 2020 recruiting class. Ironically, Toafili ranks almost identically to where both Smothers and Singleton rank.
