FSU football: Thoughts on Blake Nichelson official visit interview
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches need to step it up when it comes to linebacker recruiting for the 2023 cycle.
That’s why I’m interested in the official visit for blue-chip target Blake Nichelson, who’s visiting from Manteca, California.
I wrote earlier this week discussing if the Noles has a real shot in his recruitment, and Nichelson did an interview while on campus that shed some light on how it’s going.
One of the biggest questions about distance got answered when Nichelson said distance won’t be a factor in his decision.
Check out the interview below:
Some Key Takeaways
-Mike Norvell and Adam Fuller seem to be heavily involved, along with Randy Shannon.
-Nichelson said there’s a family atmosphere among the players, and there are no cliques.
-Nichelson wants to announce a commitment sometime in August before his senior season starts.
-Nichelson wants to return to FSU for a game, preferably when they host Clemson.
Thoughts
Mike Norvell and Fuller heavily involved suggest Shannon needs help on the trails. However, Norvell has some ties out west, probably more so than Shannon.
The family atmosphere is something we hear from multiple recruits every weekend. In regards to his commitment time frame, it doesn’t bode well for the Noles, although he mentioned he wanted to return for the Clemson game.
He mentioned relationships were big, and he wanted to keep building one with the coaching staff. However, I find it hard to believe he’d commit while only visiting once.
If the distance isn’t a problem, I think they’d have to get him back on campus before he wants to commit or somehow get him to delay his commitment until after he came back for the Clemson game.
FSU football needs quality linebackers in the worst way, and Nichelson fits the bill. The school that likely leads in his recruitment is Oregon, and he’ll officially visit there next week.
