FSU football: Reaction DT Ayobami Tifase commits to the Noles
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches continue to find every angle to improve their roster for the future. The staff added promising commits to their 2023 recruiting class over the weekend while hosting defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase for an official visit.
The twist is that Tifase was a 2023 recruit who reclassifed for the 2022 recruiting cycle and cihoose the Noles over Arkansas and Virginia Tech Tuesday afternoon.
Some subscription sites favored Arkansas and an Arkansas “insider” placed a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Razorbacks.
However, Tifase had other plans and announced his decision via his Twitter account:
Tifase spoke glowingly about visiting FSU before concluding his official visit and mentioned he would have a decision in the next couple of days. He plans to academically redshirt in 2022 to become a contributor in 2023.
He will join an impressive defensive tackle haul of Daniel Lyons and Bishop Thomas who were early enrollees this spring. Tifase ranks as a three-star, No. 678 overall, and No. 95 defensive tackle nationally. He lists at 6’3 and 311 pounds.
He hails from Maryland, an area defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins has recruited well in the past, and Haggins should get the bulk of the credit in this recruitment. Tifase has 14 offers with FSU beating the likes of Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Miami, Louisville, Rutgers, Missouri, and others for his commitment. He mentioned he’d enroll at whatever school he chose this week.
Tifase enrolling likely means the Noles have about two more spots remaining in their 2022 recruiting class. Transfer portal offensive lineman Jazston Turnetine and Oregon defensive back Daymond David are potential targets. The latter officially visited while Tifase was on campus.
FSU coaches did a solid job of addressing the trenches in the 2022 recruiting class, which bodes well for the future of the program.
