FSU football coaches have two important months for recruiting coming up for 2023 recruiting.

However, anytime you can get a five-star to visit unofficially, it’s a good thing.

The No. 30 overall player in the 2024 recruiting cycle, running back Stacy Gage, announced he will visit FSU football on Tuesday.

He made the announcement via his Twitter account:

FSU seems to have struggled with elite in-state recruiting targets of late. However, the current staff has had some success with players from IMG Academy in the last two recruiting cycles. They signed blue-chip wide receiver Malik McClain in 2021, and blue-chip quarterback AJ Duffy in the 2022 cycle.

Running back is a postion they’ve failed to sign elite talent in recent years. They have resorted to the JUCO ranks, transfer portal and a former walk-on for most of their production over the past two seasons.

The last five-star running back signed by FSU football was Cam Akers in the 2017 recruiting cycle. To their credit, FSU does have five-star athlete Kameron Davis commtted, who’ll likely be a running back in college.

The coaching staff got Gage on campus a couple of times last year, including an unofficial visit for the Miami game. Gage has over 40+ offers and is already a national recruit with one crystal ball prediction for Oklahoma, though I wouldn’t put much weight on that prediction with so much time between now and when he can sign.

If the Noles could sign Gage and Davis, it would be reminiscent of the 2017 recruiting class that saw Jimbo Fisher sign five-star running backs Cam Akers and Khalan Laborn. I wouldn’t expect this to happen, but it’s still a good sign the coaching staff is working to get elite players on campus. Hopefully, this is a sign of good things to come over the next couple of months.
