FSU football surprises everyone with signing 2021 WR Malik McClain.

FSU football fans were disappointed to learn the 2020 season came to an end with the Wake Forest game canceled.

It looked like more disappointment could be around the corner with 2021 four-star wide receiver Malik McClain announcing where he would sign to play football next year.

The one-time FSU commit de-committed a little over a week ago, and it was thought he would follow former FSU QB commit Luke Alymyer to Ole Miss.

There were multiple 247 crystal ball predictions in favor of Ole Miss, and there appeared to be no smoke for the Noles, although the coaches said they expected to sign some players in the coming days on Wednesday.

McClain announced he would be signing with the Noles Friday afternoon in a delayed announcement from the original time of 3 p.m ET.

McClain checks in as the No. 266 player overall, and No. 43 wide receiver in the 2021 recruiting cycle. He holds 14 offers and has great size and speed at 6’4″ 195 pounds a
nd a verified 40 time of 4.5 seconds.

Mike Norvell and staff getting Malik McClain back in the fold is huge and a momentum changer. McClain can be a big-time playmaker in Norvell’s offense and addresses a position in need of talent and depth.

His signing gives the 2021 class a total of 17 high school players and one transfer, which means they likely have room for eight more players.

I expect maybe two more of those spots to go to high school players that will sign on National Signing Day, with the others going to JUCO players or those in the transfer portal.

If the Noles close strong, they could finish with a top 20 recruiting class and a per player average ranking near four-star quality.
