It’s free agency time, and new NFL contracts have been going out like Krispy Kreme doughnuts when the hot light is on.

Some good news involving former FSU players, several of them have gotten new contracts during this period.

NFL careers only average a few years, so players need to get through their rookie contract and sign a much bigger contract.

After that second NFL contract, it’s icing on the cake for the most part.

Joyner signed with the then LA Rams as a second-round draft selection for four years and 5.03 million dollars. He signed a one-year deal with them in 2018 worth 11.287 million. Joyner tested the free-agent market in 2019 and signed with the Oakland Raiders for four years and 42 million dollars. His release in 2021 allowed him to sign a one-year three million dollar deal with the NY Jets, which brings us to the one-year extension above.

Brooks signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a third-round draft selection for four years and 2.87 million dollars. He signed a two-year deal with the NY Jets worth four million after getting waived by Baltimore and traded by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets declined his 1.8 million dollar option in 2019, which allowed him to sign with the New England Patriots for two years and 3.25 million dollars. Brooks signed a one-year 1.75 million deal with Houston in 2021, which brings us to the one-year extension above.

Hopkins signed with the Buffalo Bills as a sixth-round draft selection for four years and 2.272 million dollars. Hopkins got waived by two teams over the next two years and signed with Washington for three years and 7.45 million dollars. Hopkins signed a one-year extension worth 2.46 million in 2021 and got released midway through the season, which brings us to the three-year deal above.

A few more former Noles will cash in as free agents with new NFL contracts. One, in particular, former No. 1 overall draft pick, Jameis Winston, will likely sign with someone soon. It’s good to see these former Noles still shining and hopefully can help impact  recruiting as a reminder of what’s possible when players come to FSU.
