Florida State vs Pittsburgh Prediction
Both of these teams are struggling and need a win in the worst way. Florida State has dropped four in a row and haven’t covered the spread in any of them after a six-game winning streak, while Pitt has also lost four straight while going just 6-14 in their last 20.
The Seminoles have failed to cover the spread by an average of 10 points per game during their losing streak, so they’re getting beat handily. This sets up as a nice spot for them though as they should be able to pressure this Panthers offense into plenty of turnovers.
Florida State has the 23rd-highest defensive turnover percentage at 22.9% and Pitt is ranked 330th nationally in offensive turnover rate at 21.2%. The Seminoles have a top-100 effective field goal percentage in transition and should have plenty of fast-break opportunities. They’ve got the 52nd-best offensive rebounding percentage as well, so they’ll be able to give themselves looks at second-chance points.
Pitt is a disaster offensively with the 297th-ranked 2-point shooting percentage and 241th-best 3-point percentage. To make matters worse, they’re 283rd in 3-point defense. With Florida State’s offensive rebounding advantage, they’ll have plenty of open looks at three-pointers from kick-outs to go along with their points in transition.
I just don’t see how the Panthers can keep up unless they catch fire from deep. The Seminoles have the 331st-ranked 3-point defensive percentage so it’s possible, but I find it unlikely.
Give me Florida State -10 (-110) as my best bet in this one as they utilize their defense to pull away.
