FSU football fans have been patiently waiting on an announcement from junior safety Jammie Robinson.

The defense’s leading tackler and All-ACC performer had a decision to make regarding his future in Tallahassee.

Would he declare for the NFL Draft or come back to FSU football for one more season? The South Carolina native opted to return to the Noles for one more go, which is a huge win for Mike Norvell and the program.

Robinson announced the news via his Twitter account Thursday afternoon:

Thoughts

I’ve written about the importance of Jammie Robinson’s role several times. His move to safety after a few games seemed to solidify a secondary that had suffered from communication issues through the first few games.

Robinson is a sure tackler and a physical presence that helps in the passing and running game. He was also the team leader with four interceptions. FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller lost a ton of production from both defensive end positions with the exit of All-ACC performers Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas.

However, Robinson’s return could soften that production, as his presence could help alleviate some of what they’ll miss at the pass rush position. He’s arguably the most important piece of the secondary, and the emergence of Kalen DeLoach and the addition of UCF transfer linebacker Tatum Bethune will be helpful.

The coaching staff is already looking to address the defensive end positions, but this news lets them know, those positions are the only question marks on the defense right now. They have a couple of young players looking to step up and will bring in at least one defensive end from the transfer portal.

If that happens, I expect the FSU football defense to take the next step in improving in 2022. Congrats on one more year in Tallahassee, Jammie Robinson!
