FSU football dominated Boston College for most of the game Saturday afternoon for a 26-23 win. The game should have never been that close, as the referees may have had one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever witnessed.

They called 13 penalties on the Noles, several bogus calls that began early in the game. One flag was an offensive pass interference call against tight end Jordan Wilson on a catch that put FSU inside the BC 10-yard line.

A score there would have put FSU up 14-0 with the defense playing lights out. FSU wound up punting on that possession. A bogus targeting call on Jammie Robinson after the quarterback waited until he started the tackle was another bad call.

That foul changed FSU’s defense as Robinson is a big part. I wrote the game should have been 35-0 in the third quarter, but Boston College hung around with several drives continued on questionable calls after having 95 total yards at halftime.

The FSU coaching staff got away from what they do best, with Jordan Travis throwing over 30 passes instead of running the ball when they had a huge lead. It was a game that saw Boston College seize momentum offensively in the second half, but it was the FSU defense that came up big with a huge interception to ice the game for the Noles with 1:42 remaining.

Jordan Travis finished the game 20 of 34 for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran it 12 times for 33 yards. Jashaun Corbin finished the game with 13 rushes for 62 yards and one touchdown.

Ontaria Wilson led FSU receivers with three receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. The Noles have five wins and need one more win to reach bowl eligibility after starting the season 0-4. They’ll go on the road against rival Florida for the opportunity.
