FSU football has a top 10 ranked class in the 2022 recruiting cycle and has gotten off to a strong start in the 2023 cycle.

The Noles have spent the last year building relationships in Georgia and Florida, with the majority of the 2022 class hailing from those two fertile states.

Those relationships have paid off in future classes as well. The Noles have four commits for the 2023 recruiting cycle, with three of the four hailing for Florida.

One of the biggest 2023 recruiting targets hails from Lake Gibson High in Lakeland, Florida, and lists the Noles in his top five schools.

That target is five-star defensive back Cormani McClain. If the name and high school ring a bell,  it’s because Cormani is a high school teammate with five-star FSU defensive back commit Sam McCall.

The 2023 rankings are far from complete, but McClain checks in at the No. 20 player nationally and No. 3 cornerback.

He lists at 6’1.5″ and 165 pounds with 25 offers from schools like FSU, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and lots of others.

The Noles were among the first to offer McClain a scholarship in November 2020. He has been on campus several times and visited the Noles in mid-June after the NCAA ending the COVID-induced recruiting dead period.

McClain has also visited Florida and UCF since the dead period ended. The Noles hold the lone 247 Crystal Ball Prediction for McClain with low confidence of three.

The Noles are in good standing since he listed them in his top-five. However, I think they will be one of the teams to beat provided Sam McCall signs with the Noles this recruiting cycle, and they show improvement on the field. However, those two things likely go hand-in-hand.

McClain is the type of player the Noles need to keep signing to turn things around in a hurry in Tallahassee.
