FSU football: 5-star commit Sam McCall shut his recruitment down?
By Kelvin Hunt
One 2022 commit that has always kept FSU football fans on edge is a five-star defensive back, Sam McCall.
McCall is a former Gator commit and surprised some folks when he committed to the Noles on February 28.
McCall was a player ranked in the top 35 at the time, with offers from most of the top programs in the country.
His commitment came before the coaching staff caught all of its fake momentum in June. It’s common knowledge other schools have continued to recruit McCall despite his commitment.
I think that information, along with the surprise of his commitment has kept FSU fans on edge. He visited Florida a few days ago and reaffirmed he would not be flipping to Florida.
McCall has visited FSU three times since committing in February and will officially visit for the weekend of the Notre Dame game.
It looks like McCall may have taken things a step further Wednesday evening, as it seems he may have announced he is shutting his recruitment down.
That’s kind of what it implies, but he doesn’t come right out and say it. If this is the case, it’s a huge win for Mike Norvell and the coaching staff. It would mean the two highest-rated players in the 2022 recruiting class are locked in with the Noles.
I’m sure FSU will continue to recruit McCall, but it means they could concentrate on adding one more defensive back to finish the class with some clarity.
It would also give more credibility to the staff, with two players ranked in the top 30 in the nation. It would also secure the No. 1 athlete and No. 1 cornerback/wide receiver in the nation to FSU.
I know Travis Hunter Jr. has played a huge role in this recruitment, and the two were going at one another during the Seminole Showcase event a few days ago.
McCall is saying and doing all of the right things. If this is a shut-down, hopefully we’ll see more FSU football commits announce the same.
