The 2022 recruiting cycle is important for FSU football. The last two classes under Mike Norvell should help raise the floor, but this class could bring in the difference-makers needed to get back to elite status.

That status is competing for ACC and National Championships, the standard set at FSU many years ago.

One key in doing that is winning recruiting battles for blue-chip players in the state of Florida.

One of those players, 2022 athlete Sam McCall, choose to commit to the Noles Sunday evening.

McCall is the second five-star in the class, along with Travis Hunter Jr. McCall announced the news on his Twitter account:

One thing that makes this commitment even sweeter is McCall is a former Florida Gator commit, which is Mike Norvell showing evidence of besting Dan Mullen on the trail.

McCall has 14 offers from the likes of FSU, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and others. He checks in at 6’0″ and 190 pounds with two a year of high school left.

McCall is the No. 35 player overall, No. 5 athlete, and No. 6 player in Florida, according to 247 Composite rankings. McCall lists as an athlete but will likely play in the FSU secondary and should form a formidable tandem along with Travis Hunter Jr.

This commitment gives the Noles six for the 2022 recruiting cycle, with four rated as blue-chip players.

FSU could add another 2022 player soon as there was some noise with another recruit on social media around the same time McCall committed. Of course, commitments are commitments, but it doesn’t mean anything until they sign a few months from now.

However, Mike Norvell and the coaching staff send forewarning they are putting in the work to get FSU football back where it’s supposed to be.
