FSU football defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins needed to deliver quality defensive tackles in the 2022 recruiting class.

The defensive tackle position was one of the highest priorities for the Noles, and I haven’t been shy about Haggins’ failures at the position in the last couple of years.

It was a down year for defensive tackles in the state of Florida, but Haggins delivers two quality commits with the addition of Daniel Lyons Sunday afternoon.

Lyons announced his commitment to the Noles while on campus at the Seminole Showcase.

Daniel Lyons hails from Homestead, Florida, and is another recruit the Noles beat Manny Diaz for in the 2022 cycle.

Lyons ranks as the No. 453 player, No. 67 DT, and No. 61 player in Florida.

Lyons choose the Noles over Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Arizona State, Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and others.

He checks in at 6’4″ and 270 pounds. The duo of Bishop Thomas and Daniel Lyons is a nice job by Odell Haggins this recruiting cycle. Neither player ranks as blue-chip prospects, but both are solid in a year where defensive tackle recruiting is down in-state.

I know I’ve been critical of Haggins the past few months, so I want to give credit where it’s due.

The Noles have 17 commitments, with about eight spots remaining in the 2022 recruiting cycle. This addition pushes the Noles to No. 8 nationally and continues to open up the gap between Florida (No. 34) and Miami (No. 62).

The Noles will look to add another addition to the class in early August. I continue to say it, but the product on the field in 2021 will be the key to everything for Mike Norvell. He’s playing all of his cards right and needs the river to give him some good cards in the season to win this hand.
