FSU football hasn’t signed a quarterback ranked in the top 100 players in the nation since Malik Henry in 2016.

Henry was the No. 49 player overall and No. 4 ranked pro-style quarterback in the class. The talented player never panned out as the red flags that followed him in his recruitment held true to form.

That miss by Jimbo Fisher was a big part of the beginning of the end of the Jimbo Fisher era. The good news is Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham has a quarterback committed that’s ranked inside the top 100.

AJ Duffy is the No. 74 player overall and No. 7 ranked prostyle quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class. I’d argue Duffy is as talented as Henry but without all of the red flags, and he’s more ready physically as a high school senior.

Now that players can attend events and show their skills, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Duffy continue to ascend the rankings.

He shined at the Future 50 event Saturday, and some of the action can be viewed below:

That looked effortless, a tight spiral on the money with some zip on the throw.

Thoughts

Not only is Duffy shining at these events, but he’s also playing a large role in helping the staff assemble talent to join him in the class.

Duffy is active on the recruiting trail and could play a large role in an FSU football resurgence in the next couple of years. Lot of folks felt Henry would have a chance to play early at FSU, and I think the same way about Duffy with how FSU’s quarterback room is at the moment.

If the coaching staff can bring in some talent at wide receiver, and on the offensive line with him? The Noles will be back in business sooner than later more than likely.
