FSU football: Noles offer 4-star 2022 defensive tackle Jamari Lyons
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has solid momentum on the recruiting trails in multiple recruiting cycles. One they need to address is the defensive tackle position.
The Noles haven’t signed a blue-chip at the position since the 2018 season, and haven’t signed a true defensive tackle out of high school in the last two recruiting cycles.
The Noles identified 20 defensive tackles who have offers and sent their newest offer Tuesday afternoon to four-star Jamari Lyons.
Lyons announced the offer via this Twitter account:
Lyons lists as the No. 328 player overall, No. 28 defensive tackle wide, and the No. 42 player in Florida. However, Lyons is the fifth-best defensive tackle in the state.
Lyons checks in at 6’4″ and 295 pounds with 23 offers from FSU, Florida, Miami, NC State, Nebraska, South Carolina. Arkansas, Auburn, Georiga, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Virginia, and others.
Florida holds two 247 Crystal Ball Predictions cast last month with medium confidence levels.
FSU is late to the game with the offer, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been in communication with Lyons for some time. Florida, in comparison, offered him on March 31, 2020.
The Noles received a commitment from five-star athlete Sam McCall a few days ago, who was formerly committed to the Florida Gators. Could the Noles be surging at the right time? I’m sure that news caught the attention of Lyons, and he knows he’s a position of need for the Noles.
Odell Haggins has a reputation for putting players in the NFL, but this recruitment will come down to getting him on campus and how they look on the field in 2021. If they have success in those areas? Dan Mullen should start sweating like Patrick Ewing in the fourth quarter.
FSU football holds the No. 9 recruiting class in the 2022 cycle with six commitments(two five-stars, two four-stars, and two three-stars).
