FSU Alum: Dalvin Cook broke two Minnesota Viking records on Christmas
By Kelvin Hunt
Dalvin Cook continues to prove he’s the best running back in the league.
Last month, Dalvin Cook had a career game against the Detroit Lions, and he’s been on a tear ever since.
He’s been on a tear the entire 2020 NFL season, as he picked up where he left off in 2019.
Cook had a career year in 2019, rushing for 1,135 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns in 14 games while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He also had 53 receptions for 519 yards and two touchdowns receiving.
Through 14 games in 2020, Dalvin Cook has already surpassed his rushing totals and touchdowns from a year ago.
He made Minnesota Viking history as well:
Thoughts
The Minnesota Vikings have to feel like the extension they gave him in the offseason was the smartest move they could have made. He’s already +422 rushing yards compared to last year, +2 touchdowns, and has increased his average yards per carry from 4.5 to 5.
Ironically, one could argue the Vikings don’t give him the ball enough. They only have one loss this season when he’s rushed 25 times or more. That game was a three-point loss against the Dallas Cowboys, where the Vikings had two turnovers (one of those was by Cook).
The Vikings have five games where he had 18 carries or less, and the Vikings are 1-4 in those games.
The same thing happened Christmas Day, where Cook rushed 15 times for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also checked in with two receptions for 12 yards.
The answer should be simple for the Vikings if they want to win games, but ironically they don’t lean on arguably their best player enough as they should.
Nevertheless, it’s great to see Dalvin Cook replicating what he used to do in the garnet and gold, in the NFL.
