FSU football will lose a talented running back but will be fine.

FSU football coaches needed to address the running back position last recruiting cycle and found a talented running back in La’Damian Webb to help fill the void.

The JUCO product proved the ‘Noles coaching staff is adept at evaluating talent and filling needs on the roster.

Webb was the team leader in rushing yards among running backs when he decided to opt-out of the season a couple of weeks ago. He became a fan favorite for his punishing running style and spin moves while bouncing off would-be tacklers.

However, Webb opting-out was a bit of a surprise, and Mike Norvell indicated he believed Webb would rejoin the team in January. That’s not going to be the case as Webb has entered his name into the transfer portal:

Thoughts

The first thing that comes to mind is fans asking if he was cancer on the team. I don’t believe that to be the case, or Norvell would have never mentioned the plans or hopes of him returning to the team in January.

Norvell did indicate Webb had some things going on back home in Alabama as reasoning for the opt-out. Were there some other issues? Possibly, because the way Webb was tweeting on social media the day Mike Norvell mentioned he thought he’d return in January was rather weird.

That tweet indicated the likelihood of him returning in January was slim to none. There was no reason for him to tweet that otherwise after what Mike Norvell communicated to the media.

The good news is FSU football has two solid running backs, as Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili showed over the weekend.

The Noles have some great options recruiting wise as well, so hopefully, Webb will land on his feet somewhere does well. Good luck to him, and it was a pleasure to watch him don the garnet and gold.
