FSU football has lost another scholarship player for the season.

It was announced FSU football would not play in their final regular-season game against Duke Saturday.

It’s not clear if the Noles will play another game this season, although head coach Mike Norvell stated they were looking to play a game on Saturday, December 12.

That would be the earliest they could play a game after players complete their quarantine protocols from the positive COVID tests that came up before the Virginia game.

If the Noles play on December 12, they’ll be without the team’s most productive running back, La’Damian Webb.

He announced he was opting-out via his Twitter account Tuesday morning:

Thoughts

It was a surprise to people on Twitter, but I think the biggest surprise was the wording. I’m reading between the lines, but it sounds like he doesn’t plan to play for FSU football in the future.

If that’s the case, one has to wonder what happened with this situation? Is it a mixture of things? Could it be frustration with COVID issues coupled with wanting to go back home to Alabama?

Did he think he should have gotten more touches during the games? I’m only speculating here because no one knows the true reason behind the opt-out and wording he chooses to use.

One other thing, was this tweet how the coaching staff found out he was opting out? If so, I’m not a fan of that, but indicate he wasn’t happy in Tallahassee for whatever reason.

Webb was recruited by Mike Norvell from the JUCO ranks and was a gem found in the rough late in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Webb became a fan favorite with a physical style of running and spin moves to fight for extra yards. Mike Norvell is supposed to speak with the media Wednesday, and maybe he’ll shed more light on the situation then. Right now, things look like they are spiraling out of control for Mike Norvell. He needs to find a way to stop the perception of the free-fall, and quickly.
