FSU football needs better quarterback play, but FSU coaches seem to be pleased with most of what James Blackman did against Georgia Tech.

A lot of things didn’t go well for FSU football in their season opener against Georgia Tech. There was enough blame to go around on both sides of the ball.

The offense only scored 13 points(there was a field goal missed though), and the defense could have easily given up 30 points to a true freshman led offense.

Special teams were the only unit that played well, but for some reason, almost all of the blame went to redshirt junior quarterback James Blackman.

Blackman finished the game with 23 of 43 for 198 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also had several instances of scrambling with his legs erased due to being sacked three times in the game.

Did Blackman play well overall? The numbers would indicate he didn’t, but FSU football coaches seem to be pleased with what they saw from him after watching the film.

FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham said Blackman made the right calls most of the time, but it was a lack of execution that hurt the offense. There were some poor throws on Blackman’s behalf, but there were some drops from the receivers when he put it on the money that hurt his stats and took potential points off the board.
