FSU football: Players continuing to work despite no spring practice
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football coaches expect the players to continue to work out despite no spring practice. Some players are putting the work in.
FSU football Director of Strength and Conditioning Josh Storms sent a message to players on social media a few days ago.
The message was a reminder to players they should be working whether or not they are having spring practice or not.
It didn’t take long for a couple of FSU players to show evidence the work was being done via social media.
FSU redshirt sophomore defensive end Dennis Briggs Jr. and true freshman wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas can be seen in action below:
Briggs saw action in all 13 games last season and showed some promise after redshirting in 2018. He finished with 28 tackles, one sack, one pass break up, two QB hurries, one fumble forced, and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Douglas was a four-star wide receiver signee in the 2020 recruiting class who enrolled at FSU this spring. He saw some work at running back and on special teams during spring practice.
He’s a player Mike Norvell will look to get the ball in his hands in several different ways whether it’s on jet sweeps, screens out of the backfield, or lining him up at slot receiver.
Thoughts
It’s crazy how I just wrote about FSU football using social media as a tool to stay relevant in recruiting and fans engaged. One of the biggest concerns is will these players hold themselves accountable when it’s up to them to work out.
We were concerned about the upcoming summer months, who knew the accountability without coaches would be tested in March?
Coach Storms said he wasn’t going to cut players any slack when they come back just because they haven’t been able to practice like normal.
It’s a good sign to see two of the younger players on the roster putting in the work.
