FSU baseball hadn’t beat the Florida Gators in 11 consecutive games, but the winning streak finally came to an end Tuesday night.

No. 15 FSU baseball (11-5) defeated the No. 1 Florida Gators (16-1) 2-0 to end a 11 game losing streak to their rivals.

The FSU win was the first loss of the season for Florida who had won the last 16 out of 17 contest against the Noles.

FSU pitcher Antonio Velez was lights out, going six innings while allowing one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Parker Messick came out of the FSU bullpen to hold the Gators in check the rest of the way, allowing two hits with six strikeouts and zero walks.

Most FSU baseball fans believed this team has no shot to end the streak as they had just lost a ACC series against Duke. However, the Noles finally put it all together for the win.

Fan Reaction

This is huge for the FSU baseball team. It’s also huge for Mike Martin Jr. who has faced some early criticism with the offense being sporadic and the same issues on defense from past years.

FSU still left too many runners on base and missed opportunities for a number of insurance runs. However, they were sound defensively, committing zero errors for the first time in forever it seems.

The FSU offense did crank out nine hits while striking out 15 times with two walks, but left 12 runners on base. Dylan Simmons led the way for the Noles, going 3-4 with two doubles in the game.

Florida’s offense came into the game on fire, hitting 21 home runs through 16 games. However, they were only able to muster three hits against the Noles while striking out 12 times.
