FSU football coaching staff is looking to gain some momentum on the 2021 recruiting trails. Three-star running back Keyshawn Spencer de-commits from the Noles.

FSU football had two 2021 commits from the Willie Taggart era, and now that number is down to one.

Three-star running back Keyshawn Spencer announced he was de-committing from the Noles and opening his recruitment Tuesday evening.

Spencer had been committed since March 15, 2019, and has 14 offers total after winning MVP at a recent Rivals camp.

The de-commitment brings the Noles to four total commitments for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

I must say it was one of the better de-commitment postings on social media I’ve seen. He thanked the previous staff and the current staff while being complimentary. He also paid respects to the program he was committed to and could commit to in the future.

Thoughts

It’s always a tough decision for a young man when he commits to a program, and a coaching change happens afterward. There are always questions. Do I fit into the new coaching staff’s offensive plans? Does the offense fit my skill-set?

Am I a priority to the new staff? All of those questions are understandable, so it should be no surprise Spencer would like to see what his options are without disrespecting the new coaching staff while committed.

Spencer visited with the new staff in late January, and it seemed like there was work to be done. When asked if his commitment to FSU football was still solid? Spencer replied, “Hopefully it is. They said they want to build a bond, get to know them better and move forward and I stay committed.” “They showed me all the love and attention that you could ask for. I’ll be back for the spring game most likely.”

So it seems there was mutual interest at least. It’ll be interesting to see how this recruit unfolds as Spencer likes the FSU football program and its history.

Will he be up for the spring game? As they say in recruiting, it’s all about the visits, so if he doesn’t make it back to campus soon, then it’ll be easy to read the tea leaves.
