FSU football is looking to close strong with its 2020 recruiting class. Should they look to sign another running back this recruiting cycle.

FSU football coaches have done a good job of identifying needs going forward and addressing them.

They’ve signed two high school quarterbacks and received a commitment from its third running back in the class when JUCO product La’Damian Webb announced his intention to sign with the Noles Saturday afternoon.

Of course, FSU fans are hoping the coaching staff is addressing the offensive line, otherwise the running backs will not be able to do much.

I trust the coaches are working feverishly to address that need and had an Ole Miss offensive lineman commit on campus this weekend. They’ll also continue monitoring the transfer portal for more immediate help.

My question is should the Noles look to take another running back in this class? It’s a legit question considering what the FSU running back room looks like right now.

The two scholarship running backs on the roster have lots of question marks and very little experience. One will be eligible to leave for the NFL after the 2020 season and has had issues(on and off the field) that have limited his availability.

The other was basically away from the team most of last season and didn’t play.

Transfer Jashaun Corbin won’t be eligible until he receives a NCAA waiver and he’s coming off a injury that cost him most of last season.

That’s three running backs with real question marks either related to injuries or off the field issues. That leaves the aforementioned La’Damian Webb and four-star true freshman signee Lawrance Toafili.

FSU football coaches had three-star athlete Corey Wren on campus this weekend and will host four-star recruit Daijun Edwards on campus at the end of the month.

Wren isn’t a true running back but can absolutely fly with the ball in his hands. The coaches could use him in packages within the run game or with him in the slot.

Edwards is a true running back who was being recruited by the previous staff. He was teammates with current FSU players Carter Boatwright and Ryan Fitzgerald.

Thoughts

I know FSU needs help on the offensive line and they have about six or seven spots total left in this class. I’d definitely look to take a couple more graduate transfer offensive tackles, and of course one of those spots is for four-star wide receiver commit Malachi Wideman if he decides to stick with the Noles.

However, I’ll be the first to say I’d take BOTH Wren and Edwards in this class with all of the uncertainty surrounding some of those running backs in the fold.

Mike Norvell has shown the ability to use multiple running backs in the past so there’s a lot of reps to go around.

Next. Importance of La'Damian Webb Commitment. dark

Memphis had three running backs with at least 60 carries last season. FSU had one running back besides Cam Akers to sniff 60 carries in 2019. If players feel otherwise and wish to hit the transfer portal, it’s likely addition by subtraction anyways if you catch my drift.
