FSU football: Nole fans bid farewell to Randy Clements
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football needed a ton of help on the offensive line in 2019. Randy Clements did an admirable job with that unit and bids farewell.
FSU football has one of one of the worst offensive lines in all of college football since around 2016.
A lot of the issues in previous years were masked by better QB play and having the best FSU running back in history changing the numbers on the scoreboard.
However, the 2018 season saw things hit rock bottom and Deondre Francois continued to take a beating and Cam Akers was often hit 2-3 yards behind the line of scrimmage for his lowest output in three seasons.
Former head coach Willie Taggart knew he needed help, so he hired offensive coordinator Kendal Briles who handpicked his offensive line coach Randy Clements.
The first half of the Boise State game looked like the two were miracle workers as the offensive line was opening running lanes for Cam Akers and giving James Blackman time to throw.
However, as the season went on and injuries mounted the offense seemed to come back to earth. A lot of that was sheer poor quarterback play as the offensive line helped Cam Akers reach the 1,000 yard mark for the second time in his career.
Mike Norvell was hired last month and has assembled his staff with the announcement Randy Clements would be joining Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss as the offensive line coach.
Earlier Thursday, Clements took to social media to bid farewell to the Noles and they returned the favor in jest.

Thoughts
Randy Clements really did help improve the offensive line. The running game went from averaging 2.79 yards per rush last season to 3.83 yards per rush this year.
They did allow more sacks but a lot of that was on the quarterbacks, particularly Alex Hornibrook who was sacked eights times in one game against NC State.
I wasn’t particularly fond of the cut block techniques they used this year, but that’s more of a by-product of the Kendal Briles’ offense getting the hands of defenders down in the quick passing game
It’s good to see FSU fans show appreciation for his efforts as he really did have a tough job and made the best of it. Good luck to him at Ole Miss.
