FSU football offensive coordinator Kendal Briles will be moving on after one season in Tallahassee. Fans react to him taking the same role at Arkansas.

FSU football fans already knew who its offensive coordinator would be in 2020 when head coach Mike Norvell hired Kenny Dillingham away from Auburn.

That move basically guaranteed Kendal Briles wouldn’t be in Tallahassee after this season but no one was sure where he’d end up.

There were rumors of him reuniting with Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss or possibly taking the head coaching job at Florida Atlantic.

Neither of those panned out with former FSU head coach Willie Taggart taking the FAU job. However, Arkansas officially announced they’ve hired Kendal Briles to be their offensive coordinator.

Thoughts

I agree Kendal Briles wasn’t the problem with FSU football in 2019 as that solely was on the defense for the most part. The offense played well enough for FSU to reach eight or nine regular season wins.

However, there were times the offense wasn’t very good like against Wake Forest, Miami or any good team like Clemson or Florida. Some of it was the offensive line and playing two mediocre quarterbacks for parts of the year and the rest was just poor playcalling or lack of adjustments during games.

He did improve the offense nearly 40 spots over the previous year, but really it would be hard not to improve over last year’s product.

The good news is FSU may not be on the hook for his remaining salary depending on what Arkansas will pay him. It’s a win-win for both he and FSU football as head coach Mike Norvell will call the plays for the offense in 2020.

His offenses have outperformed Kendal Briles’ offenses over the past few years but it should be noted Briles has been more of a nomad in moving to different jobs after one year so there’s a lack of continuity for him to build upon.

I appreciate Briles’ efforts in Tallahassee but at least both entities will land on their feet.
