FSU football suffered a similar fate last season and now turn the tables in flipping a four-star QB at the last-minute in Chubba Purdy from Louisville.

One of the biggest questions for FSU football head coach Mike Norvell was how would he fare in recruiting after never having done it at a power five program.

I think he’s answered that in the week and a half he’s been at FSU. He’s already signed one quarterback and just flipped four-star Louisville commit Chubba Purdy.

FSU hasn’t been able to sign a single prep quarterback since the 2017 recruiting cycle and Norvell has landed two in less than a week.

Purdy is considered the No. 200 player nationally and the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Norvell and FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham reached out to Purdy shortly after leaving Memphis to coach at FSU.

Norvell was introduced as FSU’s new coach on December 8th, and Purdy was in on his official visit to FSU the following weekend that went great according to all accounts.

He had been committed to Louisville since June 21st.

Thoughts

The Purdy commitment to Louisville never seemed to make much sense to me being that he’s from Arizona. Why would he leave Arizona and go to Louisville of all places and his sister apparently attends college in the state of Florida?

Also, he was the highest rated recruit in their class by far with the highest ranked receiver being the No. 188 ranked receiver in the nation.

The Noles have three in the top 40 in the nation in their 2020 recruiting class.

In the end, the allure of what’s possible at FSU football and the offense Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham have produced was too much to pass up.

Their offenses put up monster numbers and Louisville didn’t have a quarterback on their roster to throw for over 1,800 yards in 2019.

This is a great sign and great momentum for the FSU football program that was scrambling to keep its class together a few weeks ago with how the season unfolded and the uncertainty of who would be its next head coach.

Purdy is the 18th commit and helps the Noles crack the No. 21 spot nationally.
