FSU football should be announcing its next head coach any day now. Every day that goes by puts the FSU administration in a bad spot.

FSU football did the right thing in firing Willie Taggart after the ugly loss to Miami. The same Miami team that has lost back-to-back games to Florida International and Duke.

It gave the FSU administration time to figure out what direction they wanted to go, and realistically were probably already looking at options since they made the move to fire Taggart so quickly.

I wrote about how they needed to make a splash hire right after the firing and they went after the biggest name possible in Bob Stoops.

Stoops isn’t coaching in college and is someone they could have announced BEFORE the regular season ended which would have been huge for several reasons.

That didn’t happen and it makes no sense for them to wait if he was the guy, not to mention FSU Athletic Director David Coburn said they would like to make a hire by the end of November.

I’m not one to hold someone’s feet to the fire on timelines, especially when looking to make a hire of this magnitude.

However, it’s December 3rd and a lot of moving parts could be at play with openings becoming available as schools announce firings, etc.

I think the administration has done a fine job of keeping things close to the vest and why I have a good feeling about the direction they will choose to go. They could announce a hire as early as today as some things are in place that would support that notion like the field being painted and a place to hold an announcement being set up.

However, they are on the clock with this new coaching hire and need to announce it sooner than later.

It could be just working out the fine details of the contract with whoever the new hire will be, but every day that goes by can change public perception among the fan base and media covering the situation.
