FSU Basketball Weekly Preview: December 2nd-8th
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2019-20 season.
In a period of less than one month, the FSU basketball team has gone from a squad that looked worrisome in their season opening loss to a team that looks like it is not going to be stopped on the way back to a deep run of the NCAA tournament thanks to a seven game winning streak over the last three weeks.
It’s a streak that has done wonders to both turn around what people think about head coach Leonard Hamilton’s team after losing a boatload of talent from last year’s team – as the Noles are getting it done with both youth to the point where, through eight games, the team’s tournament resume is already looking good.
This week, the Seminoles remain on the road for the annual dog and pony show with another big time conference before finally returning home for a chance to move their conference record back to .500 this early in the season.

Here’s our recap of the last week’s action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.
Last Week Recap
The week of wins started last Monday when the Seminoles were inside the Tucker Center for the continuation of the Emerald Coast Classic – starting off the action with a game against Chicago State that saw the Seminoles play 16 players in total, while coasting to a 36 point lead at the break on the way to a 113-56 win on the day behind 16 points each from Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams.
Friday, the post Turkey Day fun in the tournament moved to Niceville for a game with No. 17 ranked Tennessee. After leading by five at the break thanks to nearly 50 percent shooting, FSU basketball went ice cold in the second half but was still able to hold on for a 60-57 win that was led by 13 more points on the week from Vassell.
Saturday, it was the tournament title game against Purdue and this one would get the Seminoles into overtime for the first time this season. A three point halftime lead for the Seminoles went away, but the Noles did their job from the free throw line in the extra five minutes to get the 63-60 win and tournament title behind 17 points from Trent Forrest.
Opponent Preview
It’s two games for the Seminoles this week as the FSU basketball team gets back on the road for a Tuesday night game at the Indiana Hoosiers in the annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The men in red come into the game with an undefeated 7-0 record this season, with all seven games so far being played inside the team’s Assembly Hall on campus.
Sunday, the Seminoles return to their home arena for the second ACC game of the season when they host the Clemson Tigers. The men in orange come into the week with a 5-2 record, losing their opener against Virginia Tech and this weekend against Colorado – while playing Minnesota on Monday in their game of the meeting with the Big Ten.
Interesting Fact
Two wins this week would move the Seminoles to a 9-1 record on the season – something that shouldn’t be all that surprising considering that last season they won 12 of their first 13 games while winning 11 of their first 12 games the year before.
