FSU football got a much-needed win against the Syracuse Orange to improve their record to 4-4. Nole fans react to the performance.

FSU football made to switches to its offensive lineup against Syracuse Saturday and it seemed to pay off in spades as they bested the Syracuse Orange 42-17.

Alex Hornibrook got the start at quarterback and the offensive line consisted of Darius Washington, Cole Minshew, Andrew Boselli, Dontae Lucas and Ryan Roberts.

The ‘Noles defense forced a punt on Syracuse’s first possession and the offense promptly scored touchdowns on its first two offensive possessions.

It looked as though it was going to be a blowout early, but the FSU offense got in its usual rut and couldn’t get anything going along with some questionable playcalling.

Just when it looked like Syracuse was seizing momentum the Noles found their mojo again and scored a touchdown before the half to go up 21-3.

Unbelievably, the FSU offense took their first offensive possession of the second half in for a touchdown to go up 28-3.

Cam Akers had a heck of a day with four rushing touchdowns while lining up at running back, quarterback and wide receiver in the game. He also completed a couple of passes for 26 yards.

Thoughts

Aside from the offensive lull in the middle of the first half it was a solid game for the Noles. It’s not often the Noles can put their backups in the game early in the fourth quarter. Syracuse was able to score some points late, but couldn’t do anything prior to garbage time.

The FSU defense held them to 2.75 ypp in the first half while the FSU offense averaged 6.59 ypp.

The win sets up a big rivalry game between the Noles and Miami who also improved their record to (4-4) with their win over Pittsburgh earlier Saturday.

A win for the Noles against Miami would give them a great shot at reaching seven wins and giving Willie Taggart a third year in Tallahassee.
