FSU football: ‘Noles advanced metrics match up well with NC State
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football will open as betting favorites for the fourth time this year. Should they be favored against the NC State Wolfpack?
FSU football finally covered the betting spread as favorites last week against Lousiville. In fact, they’ve covered the spread the last two games including as underdogs against Virginia on the road.
At lot of folk were surprised to see FSU as only -8 favorites against Louisville after blowing another fourth quarter lead against Virginia.
Yup, Vegas usually gets it right folks. That’s why it’s interesting the Noles opened as -6 point favorites against the NC State Workpack for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. ET game.
It’s a home game for the Noles but I’m curious as to how many fans will show up after an inflated number of 46,000 were reported for the Louisville game.
Should the Noles even be betting favorites as the Wolfpack are 3-1 on the season with their lone loss being against West Virginia?
Bill Connelly as released his SP+ advanced metrics following the completion of week four and the Noles are ranked No. 57 with NC State ranked No. 48.
FSU is ranked No. 19 offensively, No. 98 defensively and No. 74 on special teams. NC State is ranked No. 65 offensively, No. 46 defensively and No. 57 on special teams.
For comparison sake, Boise State is ranked No. 60 offensively, No. 44 defensively and No. 61 on special teams.
It’s a home game and FSU football has shown they can play with good football teams, but the biggest question is can they play for four quarters? Will the fans show up for this game unlike last week?
The team dealt with a ton of adversity last week. There were missed field goals, losing two starters during the game and blowing a 21 point lead again.
However, they managed to finally overcome those issues and finish the game on a high note. They finished with touchdowns on their final two offense drives. The defense got a three and out and forced a fumble on Louisville’s final two possessions.
It seems as though every game is a big one for Willie Taggart and staff. The Louisville win seemed to give a reprieve of sorts while building some optimism towards progress.
A win against NC State would further validate progress is being made by Taggart and staff while providing a clearer path to at least seven or eight wins.
