FSU football had yet to land a 2020 defensive tackle. Could all that change when a three-star in-state player announces his commitment Friday?

FSU football is in dire need of defensive tackles in this recruiting class. It’s something I’ve been harping on since forever, in fact I wrote about it three months ago right here.

It was my No. 1 position of need as the Noles could lose two potential starters after the 2019 season. There’s not much experienced depth behind Marvin Wilson and Corey Durden.

It’s not like the Noles signed a monster class of defensive tackles in 2019 as they only signed two with a defensive end potentially moving to defensive tackle.

A huge need would be met if three-star defensive tackle Emanuel Rodgers commits to the Noles on Friday.

He’s expected to choose between FSU football, Florida and Tennessee at noon. Rogers is the No. 357 ranked player overall and No. 33 ranked defensive tackle while being ranked the No. 40 player in Florida.

Rogers has 17 offers from the likes of Florida, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State and Virginia among others. He stands 6’5″ and just over 300 pounds who’s extremely strong at the point of attack.

Thoughts

Rodgers seems like he would be a Odell Haggins special and Haggins is the primary recruiter with Rodgers coming out of Jensen Beach, Florida. If the Noles could land Rodgers it would help meet a huge need in the trenches and would give FSU football some needed recruiting momentum during the dead period.

It would also give them another commit to potentially attend the big Saturday Night Live recruiting event at the end of the July.

That’s going to be the most important recruiting event prior to the season, starting and it’ll be all hands on deck with the remaining targets that decide to attend.

The Noles will need to one more defensive tackle if Rodgers pulls the trigger and one need one more defensive end in this class.

A commitment would give the Noles 16 for this cycle with room for eight more or so.
