Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next game during the 2019 season.

It has become a continuing tradition for the FSU baseball team when they are in Omaha for the yearly event known as the College World Series – playing out of the loser’s bracket to make things play out a lot more interesting if they are going to end up playing for the first national title in program history.

It happened again in the 24th edition of the Seminoles and their trip to the eastern part of Nebraska after winning their first game in Omaha for two decades and now, the Noles find themselves one more loss from being sent back to Tallahassee without a national title.

But before the FSU baseball team can even think about making it to the championship series – or even to Friday at this rate – they must get past another nationally ranked team to keep the one final ride for their legendary head coach going as the Seminoles take on a team from the Big 12 they have played just a couple time in the seasons before.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

Monday night, the Seminoles took the field for a showdown with the Michigan Wolverines in a battle of teams that were among the last four teams selected to the NCAA tournament as each team fought it out for a shot to be one of the last four teams standing in Omaha.

After Michigan got a solo homer on the second pitch of the game off CJ Van Eyk – who had his shortest outing in months as he didn’t make it through the fifth inning – the Noles got a double from their first batter of the game, Mike Salvatore, before seeing the next 12 batters get out and you can see what was going to take place.

When it was all said and done, the Seminoles got shut out and were held to just three hits as head coach Mike Martin’s team got kept from a chance to win their first two games in Omaha for the first time since the 1989 season.

Opponent Preview

For just the third time in program history – with the other two times coming just two seasons ago in Tallahassee – the Seminoles will take the field Wednesday night against a Texas Tech Red Raiders team who came to Omaha as the No. 8 national seed that included an epic Super Regional victory against Oklahoma State.

Since making it to Omaha, the men from Lubbock lost their first game against Michigan on Saturday – despite having the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth – and came from behind to defeat another nationally ranked team, No. 5 Arkansas, on Monday afternoon to stay alive.

Interesting Fact

If the FSU baseball team is going to keep their hopes of sending Martin out as a champion alive, they are going to have plenty of work to do – but they have been in this spot before and ended up playing for a national title when it was all said and done.

After losing their second game during the 1999 tournament to Stanford, the Noles found themselves in a spot where one more loss would send them home and responded with three straight wins – including two over the Cardinal – to end up playing for the national title against rival Miami.
