Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

It was just over a week ago that the FSU baseball team was counting their lucky stars for being one of the final four teams selected for the NCAA Tournament – and were, for the first time in decades, one of the lower seeds in a regional that had the writing on the wall of being the final weekend of the career for legendary head coach Mike Martin.

Fast forward to this point on the calendar – and 35 runs later – and the Seminoles are not just one of the 16 teams left standing in the madness of June, but with the way things took place last weekend and who the Noles beat there are some out there who think some magic might come out of this coming weekend down on the bayou of Louisiana.

But before the Noles and Martin can get things packed for a possible trip to Omaha, they must first take on another one of the SEC’s toughest teams in a series that could be the most interesting out of the eight Super Regional showdowns taking place this weekend.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the FSU baseball team last weekend, it wasn’t so much that they outplayed the teams they faced over a three game period – it was a total domination that included making one of the top four national seeds look like they didn’t even belong playing, much less hosting, the event in Athens, GA.

The fun started on Friday afternoon when the Seminoles, led by the first two homers in the career of walk-on outfielder Tim Becker, made quick work of Florida Atlantic by the score of 13-7. On Saturday, the Seminoles gave up two quick runs to host Georgia before scoring 12 unanswered – which included three more RBIs from Becker – to coast into Sunday’s title game.

In that game, all it took to show who was going to come out on top was a Reese Albert two run homer – he was the second batter in the order for the Seminoles, remember that – as the Noles continued their offense explosion for their third straight game of double digit runs in route to a 10-1 victory and a three game sweep of the weekend.

Opponent Preview

For the seventh time in series history, the Seminoles will take on the LSU Tigers in postseason play inside of Alex Box Stadium in a battle of two of the teams that have defined college baseball over the last few decades.

At 40-24, head coach Paul Mainieri’s team comes into this weekend after also getting a three game sweep of their on last weekend at their regional in Baton Rouge. The Tigers routed Stony Brook 17-3 in the opening game before taking two games from Southern Miss, winning 8-4 on Saturday and coming back for the 6-4 regional clincher on Sunday night.

Interesting Fact

As we mentioned just a few sentences ago, the Seminoles and Tigers are used to playing each other a lot – espically in the postseason, as six of their 18 meetings before have either taken place in the regional round or in the College World Series, where LSU took two games in 2017.

All time, each team has nine wins in the series while the Tigers are on a four game winning streak as FSU baseball looks for their first win in the series since the 1994 season. This weekend will be the first action between the teams in Baton Rouge since the Seminoles took two games in the 1983 season.
