FSU baseball will face to familiar foes in their pool of the ACC Baseball Championship.

FSU baseball (35-20) got run through 11-0 in the rubber game of its regular season finale against ACC’s top seed Louisville Cardinals.

This team is one of the best cases of Jekyll and Hyde I can recall. They lost to Louisville 14-1 in the first game and then defeated the Cardinals 14-3 before getting shutout on Sunday afternoon.

The win against Louisville was an important one as it helped the Noles secure the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.

It’s the same seed the Noles has last year and they’ll face a similar foe in the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack who was also the No. 3 seed last year.

The other team in their pool is No. 10 seed Wake Forest.

The Noles were swept by the Wolfpack in the regular season and took two of three games from Wake Forest. FSU was outscored 30-15 in the three game set. They were shutout 16-0 in the opener but the other two games were competitive.

FSU baseball needs five more wins to get their 40th win for the 42nd consecutive year. Each team in each pool will play against the other two teams in the pool with the winner of the four pools playing one another in the semi-finals

The games will start Tuesday and go through Friday (May 21-24).

Thoughts

It’s going to be tough sledding for this ‘Noles team. They are too inconsistent to do much this season. They have struggled all year defensively and the offense is too sporadic and that’s a death sentence against good teams.

Noles haven’t won a series against any of the higher seeds and didn’t play ACC Coastal Champion Georgia Tech.

I suppose it’s possible the Jekyll in this team could emerge for a couple of games here and there but I don’t expect them to come out of nowhere to win the tournament like they did a couple of years ago.

Last season they had more momentum going into the tournament as they has just taken a series from NC State to end the regular season.
