Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

For one final time, the FSU baseball team will take the field in the 2019 regular season with plenty of things left to play for – a chance to finish with a series win over the top ranked team in the ACC while solidifying their spot in the standings heading into the conference postseason tournament next week.

But, maybe even more importantly for the players in garnet and gold is sending out their longtime head coach with a series victory that will maybe…just maybe…give the Seminoles an argument for why last weekend’s series would actually not be the final one in Tallahassee for the legend that wears No. 11 on the field.

But, before FSU baseball can even get into that argument, they will take the field for three games that will help decide who plays whom and when next week in Durham.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foes during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

After a slight hiccup during three midweek games that included losses to Jacksonville and Stetson, the FSU baseball team returned home for the final home series of the 2019 regular season against a Richmond Spiders team that the Seminoles had not faced on the field in nearly three decades.

Friday night, the Seminoles made quick work of things as they jumped out to a five run lead and rode the coattails of starting pitcher Drew Parrish in another strong outing in route to an 8-2 victory. Saturday, the Seminoles put up 11 runs in the game and got five shutout innings from CJ Van Eyk for the 11-1 win.

On Sunday, it was a time to say thank you to longtime head coach Mike Martin after 40 seasons of being the head coach with the most wins in college baseball – and the Seminoles didn’t disappoint as they came back from a two run deficit to explode for seven straight runs to get out with the 7-2 victory in a rain shortened game.

Opponent Preview

Entering the series as the only ACC team with at least 40 overall wins this season, the Louisville Cardinals come into the final series of the regular season seemingly getting back some momentum after what looked like a quick slump just one week ago.

At 41-12 on the season, the Cardinals defeated Indiana on Tuesday night to get their first win after dropping three of their previous four games, including losing last weekend’s series to Virginia after winning nine games in a row.

Interesting Fact

Heading into the final series of the regular season, FSU baseball knows that they need at least a series win over the Cardinals to put themselves in a position to feel comfortable about a spot in the NCAA tournament – and judging by the past, they should be in a good spot.

Over the last seven seasons, the Seminoles have won five of the final series that includes the last two seasons – a two game sweep over the Cardinals to end the 2017 regular season and taking two out of three games last season against N.C. State.
