Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

It was just under one month ago that this very website for all the best info on FSU baseball was officially freaking the hell out over how the Seminoles were playing at that point in the season – after losing 12 of their previous 18 games, it was time to start panicaing that things were falling apart during the final season under Mike Martin.

But, a funny thing happened on the way to the funeral for the Noles on the diamond: Martin and the team remembered that they are one of the better teams in the entire country and decided to show it on the scoreboard – and all of a sudden, FSU baseball is ranked again and back in the serious conversation about a deep postseason run.

Now, the Seminoles have a chance to not just get a huge three game sweep this weekend but, at the same time, dominate a team who has been among the worst this season when it comes to the power programs in the college game.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

After taking two games in the middle of the week from a Stetson team who went to the Super Regional round last season, the Seminoles hosted a surprising Wake Forest team for three games over the weekend inside of Dick Howser Stadium.

The offensive hit show started on Friday when FSU baseball, up early on the Demon Deacons, exploded for eight runs in a two inning period – including two RBIs each from J.C. Flowers, Robby Martin and Elijah Cabell – and coasted to a 13-2 win in the opener.

On Saturday, the offense stuck around early as the Noles put up two runs in the first inning and added five runs in the third inning in route to a 9-5 victory. Sunday, both teams showed up in a game that took close to five hours to be played – but FSU baseball couldn’t get the sweep in a 16-12 victory for the Deacons.

Opponent Preview

It will be a familiar foe this weekend inside of Dick Howser Stadium as the Pittsburgh Panthers, led by former FSU baseball assistant Mike Bell, will come to town for a three game set against the home standing Seminoles.

At 16-28 on the season, the Panthers have the worst record in the ACC entering the weekend but have actually won four of their last five games that includes a series win last weekend against Presbyterian and taking two midweek games against Maryland Eastern Shore by a combined score of 37 to 2.

Interesting Fact

While FSU baseball has had the week off for final exams, the team has traditionally not taken the following weekend off as over the past nine seasons the Seminoles have won seven of the series that have taken place – with the two series losses being in 2016 and 2018, both at Clemson.
