FSU football got its quarterback of the future and apparently did a great job of evaluating Jeff Sims.

FSU football is thought to have a strong team of recruiters on staff, but I think they are even better evaluators.

The only problem was the season got away from them and they were not able to sale a winning product on the field.

One of the biggest keys to the 2020 recruiting class was landing a quality quarterback since the staff hasn’t been able to the last two recruiting cycles.

The staff identified and offered Jeff Sims who was a three-star recruit at the time. FSU football offered a scholarship on January 25th and Jeff Sims committed to the Noles on February 2nd after visiting for junior day.

At the time he was ranked the No. 633 player nationally, but Sims has seen a huge increase in his recruiting ranking since committing to FSU football.

Here’s how his composite recruiting ranking has changed since earlier this year:

  • No. 633 (2/15/19)
  • No. 578 (2/28/19)
  • No. 582 (3/15/19)
  • No. 589 (3/31/19)
  • No. 595 (4/15/19)
  • No. 343 (4/29/19)

Sims has gone from the No. 24 ranked pro-style QB to the No. 16 spot. He’s also gone from the No. 82 ranked player in Florida to the No. 53 spot.

He’s an Elite 11 Finals participant and has shown well at some 7 on 7 events this spring.

Thoughts

I knew recruiting rankings were inaccurate and he’d likely get a bump recruiting wise when they were updated. It was just hard to determine when that would be.

The good news is Sims has his entire senior season to ball out and continue to improve. He already had a great frame at 6’3″ and nearly 200 pounds with a great arm.

Sims is already one of the hardest recruiters for the Noles and havig that four-star ranking should help even more although some players already knew what the deal was.

Tate Johnson is a ‘Noles offensive line target Sims and FSU commit Zane Herring are working hard to get in this class. I think what he says speaks for itself and Sims’ ranking increasing so much is a great look for the FSU football staff as evaluators.
