FSU Baseball 2019 Weekend Preview: vs. Clemson
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.
Well, we’ve officially hit the point that FSU baseball fans have been wondering about when it was going to arrive all season – the point in the schedule where the Seminoles hit the wall and essentially reach the rock bottom point in the schedule where panic mode has officially set in when it comes to the 2019 campaign.
For the Seminoles, it has become a point in the final campaign of legendary head coach Mike Martin that has some wondering if FSU baseball can turn it around to the point where they can even make it to the NCAA Tournament – something they have done every season since 1978.
Now, the Seminoles host one of their top rivals in the ACC for a three game set that will include a chance for the entire country to see the current collapse going on inside Dick Howser Stadium. Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.
The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field
After dropping two out of three games the weekend before to the rival Miami Hurricanes, FSU baseball returned home for their final chance this season to avoid a sweep at the hands of the rival Florida Gators – and break a losing streak that had gone into double digits earlier this season.
Once again, errors hurt the Noles as Florida got a runner on in the fourth inning that eventually led to the first run of the game. The Seminoles tied things up one inning later on a groundout from Alec Sanchez, but gave it back up in the ninth inning when the Gators got a two run double that would be the deciding factor in the 3-1 victory for the orange and blue.
The win marked Florida’s 11th in a row in the series and gave them a regular season sweep over the Seminoles for the fourth straight season.
Opponent Preview
Now, FSU baseball returns back to conference play as they take on a Clemson Tigers team who has been one of the teams in the ACC that has battled it out with the Seminoles for conference supremacy over the past few decades.
At 25-8 on the season, the orange and purple have won seven of their last nine games that includes a series win over Louisville and a sweep over Virginia Tech as well as beating in-state foe Furman on Wednesday in a 2-0 shutout.
Interesting Fact
At 19-13 on the season and just 7-8 in conference play, FSU baseball knows they will need a strong finish – and it won’t help them that three of their five ACC series left are against teams that currently have a better record than them (Clemson, Virginia and Louisville) while Wake Forest sits just one game back and Pittsburgh currently has the worst record in the Coastal Division.
