FSU football lacks depth at the defensive end position. I speak about why the suspension of Xavier Peters is a good thing for the team.

Players on the FSU football team have been putting in the work in preparation for Saturday’s spring game.

However, a report by Noles247 indicate redshirt freshmen defensive end Xavier Peters have been suspended from the team with no timetable to return.

The report went on to indicate that he has NOT been kicked off the team, just that he was suspended for violating team rules.

I’m not going to speculate on what those rules were but I do want to give my thoughts on why the suspension is a good thing.

I know some fans were disappointed in the news, but it does tell us one thing about the program.

It tells us accountability is back.

Peters is playing a position that lacks real depth and experience. There’s only Joshua Kaindoh and Janarius Robinson who have any real starting experience, so the odds of Peters playing significant snaps were pretty good.

The other thing to remember is Peters flirted with the transfer portal before ultimately announcing on Twitter he’d be staying with FSU football.

So we have a player that had thoughts of transferring just a few months ago who could be a real contributor suspended for a violation of team rules.

This is what you want from a coaching staff. The ability to set standards and adhere to them no matter what. Peters can look at the suspension and learn from it or he can look at it and say he should have transferred months ago.

It’s not good that he’s been missing the opportunity to get better at spring practice. However, the great thing is players on the team see there’s a standard being enforced which helps reset the culture around the program to what it should be as there is no player bigger than the program.
