FSU Football: Fans react to Xavier Peters possibly transferring (Updated)
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football could lose a player at a position that’s fairly shallow in 2019. FSU fans react to the Xavier Peters potential transfer news.
FSU football was benefactor of the NCAA transfer rule when former Louisville quarterback Jordan Travis announced he’d be transferring to FSU.
However, news broke afterwards that Xavier Peters had put his name in the transfer portal.
That doesn’t guarantee Peters is transferring, but usually that’s the case as other teams can show interest.
The team most associated with Peters is the University of Kentucky to which Peters was a commit prior to flipping to the Noles.
The news seemed to catch FSU football fans by surprise and they voiced their sentiments on social media.

Thoughts
All of those reactions are justified, but that last one is on point like icicles. FSU football was taken to task by rival fans once Peters flipped from Kentucky late in the recruiting cycle.
Everyone was aware he was a highly rated player but feared he would not qualify. The FSU staff accepted his commitment and stuck by him as he did the work to become eligible.
Who knows why he put his name in the transfer portal. It could be a family decision since Peters hails from Ohio. Maybe he wasn’t satisfied with what transpired in his meeting with FSU coaches after the season ended?
He tweeted that a month ago with the implication he’d be a Nole in 2019.
Either way, it’s hard to assess what FSU will miss if Peters does leave the program as he only played in one game and had one tackle in 2018. He was physically ready to play and likely would have been a contributor in the coming season.
It would open up a scholarship but would put FSU down a player at a position that needs quality depth if he left.
The Noles have two defensive ends signed in the 2018 class and another committed/un-signed.
UPDATE
This piece was originally written Wednesday night and I woke to the post of Xavier Peters above. As I originally wrote, there’s no guarantee he would transfer and it seems as though he was just testing the waters.

It just goes to show you how quickly things can happen in the college football world. Peters has a lot of potential as we mentioned earlier, but it’s still hard to gauge just how much he’ll contribute in 2019.
