FSU Baseball 2019 Weekday Preview: vs. Jacksonville Game 2
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.
There are plenty of words that can be used for the things that have been going on with the FSU baseball team of late: disgusting, inexcusable, slump, disappointing and a few four letter words that the bosses here at FanSided would not let us right even though they would be fully justified of late.
It’s one thing for the Seminoles to be losing to ranked teams or those that have been traditionally tougher games – but this weekend’s past series showed that the Noles are getting closer and closer with every series to hitting that panic button that usually comes at some point around the middle of the season.
Now, the Seminoles continue their 12 game stand of games in the Sunshine State with a home game that has all of a sudden become a must win to turn things around before maybe the most important series of the season for a variety of reasons.
Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.
The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field
After losing yet another game to the rival Florida Gators in the middle of the week, FSU baseball hosted a Boston College team who came into the series with a 12-12 record – and looked like anything but a .500 team as they cruised to a seven run lead and coasted to a 10-7 victory in the opening game.
On Saturday, FSU baseball scored three runs in the first inning – and promptly gave up three runs over the rest of the game before Mike Salvatore became the hero with a single to right field that scored Tim Becker and gave the Seminoles a 4-3 win.
That would be the last highlight of the weekend as the Noles and Eagles were scoreless entering the seventh inning on Sunday – and Boston College proceeded to score eight runs and shutout the Seminoles to win just their second series in the 14 season history with FSU baseball.
Opponent Preview
The Seminoles will attempt to play their first game of the season against the Jacksonville Dolphins on Tuesday inside Dick Howser Stadium – and while the Seminoles have struggled of late, JU has been on the winning side more often than not.
With a 18-10 record on the season, Jacksonville won six straight games before dropping the second game of a double header on Saturday against the always powerful New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Interesting Fact
The Seminoles and Dolphins, who have met for over 160 games in the series history, will meet for the first time this season after their originally scheduled game in February was rained out. FSU baseball has won the last six meetings between the two teams, which includes three games scoring in double digits and a 21 run outing at one point.
