Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After a week before that the FSU baseball team would love to forget after losing three out of four games to ranked teams they faced, this past week looked like it was going to be a continuation of the recent struggles for the Seminoles and head coach Mike Martin – until a hero came a long and saved the Noles from certain embarrassment.

It seems to be something that takes place each season for the Seminoles of late – a hot start to the season is met by bumps in the road when they face competition that is better than the early season games that Martin and the Noles tend to schedule early on in the season.

Now, it’s back to ACC play this weekend for FSU baseball as they hit the road for another series against a team they have had issues against before. Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

After getting blown out by rival Florida and losing two of three at N.C. State, the Seminoles returned home for two midweek games against teams from the Sunshine State that they have had luck with before – but were tested this time.

Tuesday, the Noles hosted a UCF team that had a win over the Gators this season but were playing just their second road game of the year – but after a six run fifth inning, the Knights held on to the lead and never looked back as the Noles struck out 15 times and lost the game 9-7.

On Wednesday, FSU baseball welcomed the FIU Panthers to Tallahassee for the first time in years – and the men from Miami were rude guest as they had a two run lead at the halfway point. The Seminoles had the last laugh after tying the game and then Drew Mendoza hit the game winning three run homer in the eighth inning to get the 9-6 victory.

Opponent Preview

This weekend, it’s off to South Bend to take on (part time) ACC member Notre Dame and face a Fighting Irish team who has been…well, hot and cold might be the nicest way to describe that team so far this season – as the cold weather will keep the series from starting until Saturday, when the teams will play a doubleheader before one game on Sunday.

After starting off the season getting swept in three games by Arizona State and losing to teams like Ball State and Incarnate Word, the Fighting Irish have won both of their ACC series to start the season as they have take two out of three games against Wake Forest and Clemson each.

Interesting Fact

FSU baseball will be taking on a Notre Dame team who they have a hot and cold history with as well. All time, the Seminoles hold a 17-8 lead in the series, but are just 3-3 in South Bend after being swept in their 2015 series there and doing the sweeping in the 2017 edition.

Since Notre Dame “joined” the conference in the 2014 season, the Noles have won 12 of their 16 meetings to get some payback for the Irish’s Super Regional win over the Seminoles in Tallahassee during the 2002 season.
