Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After a weekend in which the FSU baseball team both got off to a good start in ACC play as well as getting their long time head coach a historical win that will likely never be matched in the game, the Seminoles found themselves wondering what took place after another midweek disaster against their hated rival.

It was their second loss in the last four games – but it wasn’t even as much that the Noles lost badly, but it was that they didn’t necessarily lose to a team who was all that much better than them, but that the Seminoles beat themselves with plenty of their own errors that can’t be done if they want to get back to Omaha.

Now, FSU baseball heads back on the road for their first series away from Dick Howser Stadium against an ACC foe who has been pretty hot to start the season to say the least. Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the first four and a half innings on Tuesday night, FSU baseball was sitting pretty as they took on the rival Florida Gators for the first of three games this season. Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Seminoles led 6-0 thanks to a grand slam from J.C. Flowers and looked like they were going to get their first regular season win in Gainesville in a long time.

By the end of the sixth inning, the Gators had a 13-7 lead thanks to errors from the Noles and timely hitting from the home team that continued the frustration inside McKethan Stadium for the Noles. By the end of the game, Florida tacked on seven more runs – tying the second most runs scored by either team in series history – and the Gainesville woes lived on for another year.

Opponent Preview

Entering the week, two teams in Division 1 college baseball were undefeated – and one of those teams will host FSU baseball for a three game series, as the N.C. State Wolfpack will bring their 17-0 record into the weekend.

The Wolfpack opened conference play last weekend with a sweep of the Pittsburgh Panthers before adding two midweek wins over George Mason and Charlotte. With all due respect, the men from Raleigh have not had the toughest of schedules as they have played just one ranked team so far in 2019.

Interesting Fact

For the sixth straight season, FSU baseball lost the first game of their series with the Gators in Gainesville – but the previous five seasons actually saw the Seminoles win the following weekend ACC series four of those times. The only exception was losing to Virginia Tech two out of three games in the 2017 season.
