FSU football addressed their biggest issue this recruiting cycle: the offensive line. Chop Chat’s Sam Tschida is here to break it down.

The offensive line has easily the biggest source of headaches for FSU football fans over the past several years, with 2018 being the worst among them. The ‘Noles had, arguably, the worst o-line in the entire Power Five, with the only competent lineman plagued by injury throughout the season.

A combination of poor scouting, injury, and lack of development at the position has led to severe consequences, which the new coaching staff is now trying to fix. They signed a total of six offensive linemen in this class, which will definitely help the lack of depth that the position group has faced.

Now, depth is one thing; having enough players to fill in for injured starters is obviously important (i.e: the quarterback position). But FSU’s main problems the last several years have been that the lack of depth was combined with poor play from backups.

Last season once Landon Dickerson and Cole Minshew were hurt, their backups played very, very poorly because they played out of position. Many Seminole fans forget that Derrick Kelley was a decent guard before injuries forced his move to tackle. We’ve learned the hard way that having quality depth on the line is essential.

The coaching staff has been trying to combat this problem, and this season are bringing in six new linemen to compete for playing time. But what should ‘Nole fans expect? Let’s break them down.
