FSU football was rejoicing early on Wednesday as they got another lineman, but were crying after losing their last quarterback recruit to Maryland.

Entering the traditional signing day period on Wednesday, the FSU football program had gone out of its way to address areas of need – getting commitments and signings from multiple offensive lineman and secondary players to make up for the defaults at both positions that were beyond noticeable over the past few seasons.

It was those spots that made quite a splash early on as the Seminoles got signed letters from two defensive backs who had been long time commits to FSU football in Travis Jay and Bendan Gant.

But it was back to the offensive line where the Seminoles did something in getting Darius Washington, a three star recruit from Pensacola who had de-committed from Mississippi State earlier in the week, to choose the Seminoles over Miami.

While that was reason to celebrate, FSU football quickly got splashed with cold water just over an hour later when the last remaining top quarterback prospect they were in the running for – Lance LeGendre from the state of Louisiana – shocked almost everyone when he chose to sign with Maryland over the Seminoles.

Now, I have been someone know for being able to spin things clearly in the direction of my beloved alma mater – but this one is a big hurt for the Seminoles and head coach Willie Taggart. Maybe we were all drinking the punch on this one, but for the longest time of late it seemed the Noles were the favorite to land what was seen as the last chance to get a signal caller this class.

Maybe Taggart and the Seminoles know something we don’t – maybe Jordan Travis will get cleared by the NCAA and not have to sit out a year or maybe there is a young transfer set to pick the Seminoles now.

On the surface, however, this was the worst possible thing that could have happened to the class on the offensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, it will also keep the notion going to some that Taggart is in over his head with FSU football. Only time will tell if this is the beginning of the end or just a small hiccup in the comeback.
